We’re already a few days into the month of June, but what a month it looks to be! I’m finally caught up after being sick off and on for 6 weeks. I’ve sat down and scheduled things out so hopefully I can stay on task!
So, what are my goals for June?
1. Write 20K on Bellanock–that’s 20 days of 1,000 words! Bellanock was originally going to be a stand alone novel, but now my agent and I are discussing either doing 3-4 novellas or some other sort of series of shorts. I’m really excited. But mostly, I’m just thrilled to be writing something NEW!
2. Prepare my social media for writers workshop for the KY Christian Writers Conference (last Saturday of June). I have most of it outlined in my head. I just need to sit down and jot it all out and develop the handout.
3. Finish the free content for my website. I’m excited to offer my newsletter subscribers some awesome handouts and other fun stuff over the next few months.
4. Exercise at least 3 times a week. I’m slowly figuring out ways/times to work exercise into my schedule. I know it’s important, and it really should be a priority. I’m just so busy! (That’s what everyone says, I know.) But even if I just get up earlier in the morning, I could work in a short walk, right?
So, there’s my main focuses this month. I have a lot going on schedule-wise, but I’m excited about all the opportunities God is placing in my path. God is good–all the time.
I use the OOLA system to plan my goals so I have one or more in each of the following areas – fitness, finance, family, field, faith, friends, fun.
My finance goal is to save $200 this month (and each month) for a trip we need to take NEXT August.
My field goal is to write weekly and create my freebie.
My family goal is to use Fri 5:30 to Sat 4:30 as family time.
Great goals, LaDonna!
I like that your planning ahead in the finance area. Yay!
What kinds of things do you think you’ll do for family time?
Woohoo! You can do it, Ralene! I’m particularly excited about the newsletter perks. 😉
My goals for June are to:
1. Write at least another 20,000 words in book three of the Out of Time series. (I’ve got 4,000 down already, so I’m on track!)
2. Read a few books for a contest I’m helping judge.
3. And pre-write blog posts because I’m traveling 5 weeks out of the next two months. Phew!
Those are some great goals, Nadine! It sounds like your being very organized about planning ahead for your travels. Way to go!
Interesting that your agent was supportive of doing 3-4 novellas. I’ve been thinking about splitting my first full-length novel into four novellas, so I can publish faster and focus on the story arc of each chapter. I would love if you wrote more about why you and your agent made this decision and how this changes your story from when it was a single novel.
Good call on exercise. Big results come from small changes; I’ve introduced a goal this month where I clean for 20 minutes every day when I get home from work. This does a surprising amount for the house, and gets me in a “get-things-done” attitude, which helps me focus on writing.
My big goal for this month is to finish formatting the print edition of Dream Eater’s Carnival. I think I’m getting close, but it’s involved a ton of research.
Thanks for stopping by, David. I will certainly do a few blog posts on the decision to break the novel down and the process of it all. I will say that the biggest reason my agent and I decided to go this route is so that I can start building a following while she’s shopping my trilogies to traditional houses.
I like that 20-minutes-a-day attitude. Progress is progress and often inspires us to accomplish more! Good luck on the formatting.
